Jan Jakub Lipiński‘s violin making career started when he was 21 years old. Between 2013-2014 he was learning violin making in the workshop of the Polish luthier Krzysztof Pawikowski. In 2014 he started studying at the luthiery faculty of the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań.

After receiving his bachelor degree he went on a 5-month apprenticeship at the Jan Bartoś’s workshop in Paris. He started luthiery studies on master level at the Academy of Music in Poznań the same year. In 2018/2019 he was working for Jacek Wesołowski – maker of baroque instruments and restorer based in Gdańsk.

In 2019 Jan won a gold medal in the International Włodzimierz Kamiński Violin Making Competition. He was also awarded a medal for the best workmanship and sound. In the beginning of 2020 he received a silver medal at the International Baroque Violin Making Competition in Malta. In the same year he graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Poznań and obtained a master’s degree. In 2021 he won a bronze medal at the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition. Jan was awarded a “Młoda Polska” scholarship for young artists. Since 2021 he has been working with Piotr Pielaszek.

Jan is also a board member of the Polish Union of Violin Makers.
